Lily has hurt her back. We aren't sure when this happened but after a long walk this morning LIly started to have trouble walking. During the walk this morning she walk slow but really showed nothing to indicate a back problem. We took her to the emergency vet in Coon Rapids this afternoon and the doctor knew right away her back was damaged. Her legs are weak and all her abdomen and back muscles are tight and inflamed leading to pressure on the spinal cord. She is still able to feel and move her legs but there is definite delay in any responses which shows spinal cord trouble. The doctor took an x-ray which shows evidence of a ruptured spinal disc. The major damage could of happened anytime but is now inflamed enough to show us she was in trouble. He said her back is a 3 out of 10 in severity.
Lily is home now on Robaxin muscle relaxant and prednisone a anti-inflamintory drug. She has rest for 2 weeks and carried outside. No more walks of any kind for a while. We have all of the stairs and her favorite high resting areas are blocked so she doesn't make anything worse. Now she is resting on a bunch of blankets on the floor in the living room. We have to get the inflamation down and keep her inactive.
