Today Lily is doing better and showing great improvement. Hopefully. In a couple weeks she will be able to go bye bye with us. I really miss having her in the car and her excitement to be with us wherever we go. Tomorrow, I'm off and I'm looking forward to spending time with her around the house
Today, Lily has shown great improvement with her legs. She still doesn't have much strength in her legs for jumping or climbing but she did walk a lot better. This afternoon when I carried her out back she walked around the yard almost like normal but slow. After a little while she started to stumble a little. This evening she used her left back leg to scratch her ear which was a wonderful site since that leg seemed to be worst off a few days ago.
Lily is going to the vet on Monday for a checkup. We have her x-rays to bring down there and I plan to take some pictures of them tomorrow. Then I'll post the first internal pictures of Lily including her damaged spine.
Today, Lily hung out with me in the living room while I set up my new cell phone. Her back is still hurt but she is much more comfortable now. Hopefully, she will have a good recovery and her back legs will be back to normal soon.
Today is Thanksgiving, and Lily was born on Thanksgiving 1998. What a lousy way to spend your birthday in a Doggie ER. But she got wonderful quick exam, extra by a concerned Vet. He said Beagles were pron to disc problems. Jim and I are catering to her every need as best we can so she can get proper rest for the healing she needs and we are both praying for her recovery .
Lily has hurt her back. We aren't sure when this happened but after a long walk this morning LIly started to have trouble walking. During the walk this morning she walk slow but really showed nothing to indicate a back problem. We took her to the emergency vet in Coon Rapids this afternoon and the doctor knew right away her back was damaged. Her legs are weak and all her abdomen and back muscles are tight and inflamed leading to pressure on the spinal cord. She is still able to feel and move her legs but there is definite delay in any responses which shows spinal cord trouble. The doctor took an x-ray which shows evidence of a ruptured spinal disc. The major damage could of happened anytime but is now inflamed enough to show us she was in trouble. He said her back is a 3 out of 10 in severity.
Lily is home now on Robaxin muscle relaxant and prednisone a anti-inflamintory drug. She has rest for 2 weeks and carried outside. No more walks of any kind for a while. We have all of the stairs and her favorite high resting areas are blocked so she doesn't make anything worse. Now she is resting on a bunch of blankets on the floor in the living room. We have to get the inflamation down and keep her inactive.
On Saturday we went to the open house at GV greenhouse to see all the pointsetta and other xmas plants. On our way home when going around the "big curve" on 47 my tire went wop wop wop so pulled over to the shoulder on a dangerous curve. Too dangerous for Jim to change tire and called tow truck who also determined too dangerous so towed us to station. Luckily I remembered Costco had a tire sale so after having spare tire put on we went there and got 4 tires. On my last oil change the mechanic said I should get new tires before winter. Oh yeah another thing. While sitting in the car waiting for tow another car went past us making funny tire sounds too and lo and behold we passed them a block or so up the hiway when we were being towed. So there nust have been nails or something on the road by the curved road.
Now that the days are growing shorter and darkness comes earlier Lily and I both got new walking garments. She got a bright yellow bandanna with reflective stripes and I got a vest with reflector tape so we can walk safely at night. A couple of months back, on a very hot day, Lily and I went walking at night after the temps cooled down. We were walking on Park St and were almost run down by a motorcycle because it was dark and they couldn't see us very well until they were just a few feet away and I had to jump away quickly onto the curb and luckily Lily was walking on the grass.
