Warm Day

Today is leap year's extra day and the last day of Feb is going out like a lamb. What a pleasant day. Started going out for early Mass wearing just a light, unbuttoned coat. Weather predicted for high 40's today. In the afternoon Lily and I went for a walk down by the river. It was sloppy, and slushy and Lily enjoyed every puddle. Snow melting fast today. When we got home Lily it was too nice to go inside so I tied Lily out front and puttered around. Could hear the melted water running down the roof and gutters, sounded like a small brook running. I checked the gutters which were draining fine. I also vacuumed my car. When done outside Lily got a bath- which is a small payment for the fun walk in which she got all dirt spatted. Of course she gets wrapped in warm towels after the bath.

Stranger in the Night

Late last night Lily was giving her usual hints that she wanted to go outside, so I tied her out back. After closing the door and walking just a few steps I heard her barking in an excited bark and figured she spotted a rabbit, neighbor, dog or whatever. She persisted and I went out to scold her and low and behold she was on the end of her rope with a possum cornered by the window well/garden by the back door. There was a edging fence between the possum and Lily. Then when I peeked around the door and it saw me it really was scared. I called jim out to see it and he went out and brought Lily in. When I checked a few min later it was gone of course. It must live nearby. Jim saw one in the driveway last summer when he drove in the driveway on a dark night. The shrew was cute-light brown in color with a pinkist snout and was about the size of a large cat with a rounded belly.
