Yesterday was Independence Day and Lily and I went to the cemetery and brought some fresh flowers from the garden and while I was trimming grass, pulling weeds Lily was sniffing around as usual and was tormented by horseflys. She would try to nip at them on her legs and back, roll in the grass. I never had a bite but she apparently was. Next we went to closeout sale of plants at the greenhouse in Champlin mall and bought a couple of plants. Then we went to the annual 4th of July concert in Anoka. Had our fill of rootbeer floats. I sipped the rootbeer and Lily finished the icecream. Had a very good brass band. Played everthing from Sousa, Beethoven, polkas, Amazing Grace. Lily and I sat on the grass by 2 trees and had a good view. She was so well behaved and sat quietly and looked around, interested in all the going ons about her. Several people stopped byand commented on her behaviour and how cute she was. She thoroughly enjoyed the event. We had another rootbeer float as we left for home.
Over the past few days Lily has been getting excited everytime a squirrel moves around in the trees above the backyard. I'm not sure if she's chased many squirrels in the past from below because I've never seen her do it before. Maybe there's a particular squirrel in the trees that Lily thinks is a backyard buddy or something. I think the obvious movement of the branches and the rustling noise of the traveling squirrel is a lot of fun for Lily to follow.
